"In a little Barony far far in the Western Frontier"
Gangs are a problem in any kingdom or empire. Here are a few that have moved into or formed in The Little Barony.
Bonstas - A really vicious and tough gang that is empire wide.
They believe in blood and fear.
They are know for killing every person in an area to send a message.
They also know how to disappear when the law comes to take them out.
The Foreigners - They are criminals from foreign lands that have no loyalty or ties.
They commonly take on any gangs in their way.
They also have many spys and assassins and can and will do espionage for any other foreign power.
The Ladorians- A thievery's guild specialized in robbing nobles.
They are ran by a sect of evil clerics who worship a god called "The Ladder".
The Daggers - A lowlife guild of thieves and thugs.
They don't know when to back off and are not very careful.
They also take anyone who wants to join if they survive the beat in.
The Martins - A very large and organized group much like the Bonstas but with seemingly more class.
They are in league with devils though.
This is a blog dedicated to the simplicity of the Old School Renaissance of Role Playing Games and the Fusion of Modern Role Playing Game Ideas.

Thief: The Dark Project
Thief...One of the greatest PC games ever made.

A medieval world of machines, cults, and many stories of the City.

Always trouble for Garrett our hero for lack of a better word.

Always a pawn in their games...

The graphics are mediocre in our modern standards and most modern machines won't run it without alot of tweaking or just play it on an old PC.

The sound is what really sets this PC game apart. You can most likely find it for a few bucks. ThiefII The Metal Age is the second in the series. It is just as good as the first game.
Thief: Deadly Shadows is barely the thief experience. Although better graphics it failed to give the same experience.
There is a place to get a FREE Thief type experience so long as you own a copy of Doom3. A group of saints created "The Dark Mod" for Doom3. It is a free engine for those who wish to create Thief type missions. They have succeeded in capturing the feel of Thief and it is free. There are many FREE fan missions and most are fantastic.

Quentin Tarantino Style Combat Part II
Seems a bit juvenile making combat some extremely violent thing that could possibly ban all Role Playing Games.
BUT
Gamers just like the extreme nature of a Quentin Tarantino Style Combat. Combat as described in D&D is a series of blows and parries until a hit is made.
Is it just fighters that do the dirty tricks?
What about the tricksy thief? Nay ye are not old skew enough! There be no thieves! Well poo to you all! If you make it a subclass of the fighter it's even better! The backstab ability to do double damage is great for the Quentin Tarantino Style Combat forms of violence.
The backstabs can be treated as broken necks, decapitations, and any other form of gory display. When an enemy dies horribly a morale role is needed for the rest of it's group.
The enemy might just run away!

Backgrounds and Variations on a Theme of a Fighter Part II
Alas why do we need skill list?
I mean skills are great in some systems but in S&W is it needed?
YES and NO!
The background of a character is his or her skills.
A character raised in the wilderness or raised in the city would be different.
What I do is allow a simple 1d20 roll plus level plus attribute bonus.
The higher the better.
For "thieves" this is what I do as well.
I give them a simple 1d6+1 per level HPs as well.
"Ranger" types will be handled the same way as well.
A ruling on the spot with no game stopping delay.
I have many players ask about "Feats".
All characters have all "feats" and can try to do anything such as trips, pushes, and power attacks.
A simple attack roll with a possible + or - to the roll and to damage.
Being a Referee for S&W is fun and easy.
