IF my job ever stops having the "World of Suckass Olympics" of people wanting to work every weekend, I might be able to get my dream campaign going. After reading my post there is much of it that I could do different. Gary and Dave in the old days hustled their campaigns to everyone that would play. But what am I even saying I even wrote newsletters about the campaign and there was very little response. I don't know if I can just find my folder... What we do now is DMs choice - so whoever has something prepped and ready to run gets to choose the game. Right now I'm running a sandbox campaign and will keep it up as long as I can (the last one I ran went almost 30 sessions and the PCs were 4-5th level when I lost my own creative mojo and took a break). I do prefer the long-running campaign. But we also do a lot of one-shots (or 2-3 shots) where someone is just trying out the latest game. That's OK. I've learned to embrace that and just have fun with it in the moment, since I'm gaming to have fun and to create a momentary diversion from real life. If you seem stuck in the game-switching rut you can always try something different than the usual 1st-level monster fodder. Start the PCs at high level and commit to running through a classic module that will give you more than a few sessions. Play monsters instead of PCs. Suggest if you're playing a new game that players create PCs offline, and come ready to play, rather than wasting time at the start of each session, or if it's someone else's new game, suggest they create pregens for everyone. But have fun with it above all.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
